Model-based analysis of SCR-coated filters performance aspects

Grigorios  Koltsakis, Aristotle University Thessaloniki

An evaluation of the wall-flow vs the conventional flow-through reactor concept for SCR is presented. A model-based approach allows the ‘isolation’ of the reactor design effects by assuming equal intrinsic catalyst reactivity in both cases. In addition to the NOx conversion performance aspects, the paper discusses the effect of soot and ash accumulation on the coated filter. The effect of SCR reactions on passive soot oxidation and the effect of accumulated ash is also discussed. Particular emphasis is given to the effect of non-uniform catalyst impregnation inside the porous wall. The analysis is based on physically and chemically informed models of the transport – reaction phenomena in flow-through and wall-flow reactors.
