Modeling the impact of lube oil on catalyst performance

Praveen  Chavannavar, Caterpillar

An in-depth examination of the formulation, implementation and validation of a physical model intended to predict the performance of catalytic components in the exhaust system after exposure to lube oil components in the exhaust gases. The presentation delves into the assumptions implicit in the model (and the justifications for doing so), the implications of these assumptions, and finally, comparison of the model predictions against available long hour experimental data. The work also explores the differences involved in predicting the deactivation of performance for the different aftertreatment components (Eg: Diesel Oxidation Catalyst versus the Selective Catalytic Reduction components).
