Non-NH3 SCR perrformance in an LNT/SCR lean exhaust System

Mark  Dearth, Ford-RIC

Ford RIC in collaboration with the Univ. of Kentucky, the Univ. of Houston, ORNL, and BASF, have been studying the non-NH3 SCR performance of a commercial CU-zeolite SCR catalyst in conjunction with an LNT and upstream TWC/DOC. Early work focused on HNCO or other nitrogen containing intermediates from the reactions of HCs and NOx across the LNT, but later work has identified a significant contribution of ethylene and propylene to the overall system behavior. Significant effort has gone into identifying the conditions under which this HC-SCR performance improves the overall system efficiency. These conditions will be described with the supporting data as well as the opprtunities and challenges the results highlight.
