Methodology to Control the Uncontrolled DPF Regenerations

Rijing  Zhan, Southwest Research Institute

Uncontrolled DPF regenerations are characterized with high temperature, or high temperaturecan grandient inside the DPF under certain engine operating conditions, and the DPD can easily be damaged if such a regeneration happens.

Uncontrolled regeneration can be classified into three types:
Type A: high temperature grandient at the start of DPF regeneration
Type B: conventional runaway regeneration
Type C: "hot spot" related high local temeprature during regular regeneration.

Control strategies are developed for each uncontrolled regeneration, and the strategies are validated by on-engine testing results.
