Storage of NH3 and H2O over Fe-zeolite based SCR catalysts

The Fe-zeolite based SCR – catalyst is a very promising technology for the abatement of NOx from diesel exhausts. Since the deNOx activity of the SCR converter is controlled by the reactivity of NH3 adsorbed on the catalytic surface, the adsorption and desorption of this species is very critical for the global SCR-reactions mechanism. For this purpose, a kinetic model for the NH3 adsorption and desorption has been developed. This model, which is based on a model of L. Olsson et. al., describes the adsorption of NH3 over four different sites, including metal sites, Br?nsted acid sites and sites for weak physisorption. The model was successfully tested over a wide range of operating conditions, found in literature, showing sufficiently reliable for the efficient modeling and simulation of NH3 and H2O adsorption over Fe-zeolite based SCR catalysts.
